A contribution payment due date* is on the 10th day of the following month for the applicable month.**
* The due date for contribution payment is prescribed by applicable laws; therefore, a failure to pay contribution by the due date will lead to the addition of arrears.
** If the due date falls on Saturday, Sunday or Public holiday, the next business day shall be considered as the effective day.
An insured person (employer) shall pay contributions on a monthly basis, beginning with the month immediately following the month in which insured status is attained, and ending with the month in which the date immediately preceding the date on which the status is lost falls.
¡Ø There are three cases where contributions can be paid in the month in which insured status is attained: if the status-attained date is on the first day of the month, the attained status is a Voluntarily and Continuously Insured Person, or he/she desires so.
¡Ø Should any questions about contribution payment arise, please contact the Call Center of National Health Insurance Service at 1577-1000.
If a person, who re-acquires the status of an insured person after he/she is paid a Lump-sum Refund, returns the Lump-sum Refund and its interest to the NPS, the period corresponding to the Lump-sum Refund will be restored and included to the total insured period. It is not mandatory, but aimed at expanding pension benefits.
A person, who is eligible for postponed payment of contributions and desires to fulfill the 10-year contribution payment requirement, may make contributions for deficient periods (up to under 10 years) in full or in part on the basis of the current contribution amount. The number of months paid will be included to the total insured period; however, it is not mandatory.
